How it works
Upload once. Then send only what changes.
Audience Sync turns a CSV or Excel file into a matched audience in your ads account. When you upload a new version, it sends only the rows that changed, and shows you when an audience needs attention.
Setup
Five steps, about 10 minutes.
- Connect your ads accountSign in as a user with an advertiser role and choose the ad account to build audiences in.
- Upload a fileA CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file. For Excel, pick the sheet and the row that holds the headers.
- Confirm the columnsAudience Sync recognizes common header names for company, website, email, name and country. You confirm or change them.
- Name the audienceChoose a company, contact or exclusion audience. Audience Sync creates a new audience with that name.
- Send the first uploadIt goes out right away. Matching usually takes 24 to 48 hours.
Updating an audience
What happens when you upload a new version.
Read the new file
Same column mapping, cleaned with the same rules.
Find what changed
Compare it with the previous version.
Send only the changes
Add the new rows, remove the rows that are gone.
Read back the status
Match rate, audience size and readiness, checked periodically.
The new file replaces the old list, and only the difference is sent, so the audience is updated in place. To change a single company or contact, add or remove it by hand in the app.
Audience status
Every audience tells you where it stands.
Status is checked periodically after each upload and shown in the app. A banner appears when an audience needs attention.
Audience types
Companies or people.
Reach everyone at your target accounts
Matches on the company itself. Your ads reach people at those companies who also fit your campaign's targeting, such as job function or seniority.
Matched on company name, website domain and company page URL.
Reach the people you already know
Matches individual people by hashed email and name. Use it when you know who is on the buying committee.
Matched on hashed email, first and last name, company and country.
Either type can be marked as an exclusion audience, to keep ads away from customers, employees or any other list. Most account-based programs start with a company audience, then add a contact audience for the people sales is already talking to.
Mapping and cleanup
The tedious parts, handled by fixed rules.
Column mapping
Recognizes common header names, like Company, Website, Email and Country, and suggests the mapping for you to confirm.
Website domains
Strips http, https, www and page paths, so a full web address becomes a plain domain.
Countries
Turns country names into 2-letter codes, so "United States" becomes "US".
Duplicates
Removes rows that appear more than once in the file.
Invalid emails
Skips emails that aren't valid instead of sending them.
Skipped rows report
Shows which rows were left out and why, so you can fix them in your file.
Cleanup follows the same rules for every file. Nothing is guessed, and no outside data is added.
You stay in control
Change or remove an audience any time.
Upload a new version
Replaces the list. Only the rows that were added or removed are sent.
Edit one row
Add or remove a single company or contact by hand in the app, without a new file.
Remove
Stops updates and deletes the stored list data within 30 days. The audience stays in your ads account until you delete it there.
Good to know
New audiences only
Audience Sync creates its own audiences. It never edits audiences you made by hand or with other tools.
300 to run
The ad platform needs at least 300 matched members before an audience can serve ads.
Clean data matches best
Website domains and work emails give the highest match rates.
